INTERCONNECTIONS ANNOUNCES AVAILABILITY OF VERSION 3.0
OF ITS TERMINAL EMULATION SERVICES (TES) INTEGRATION SOFTWARE
Shipments To Begin By October On NetWare-VMS Product
BELLEVUE, WA, August 25, 1993 -- InterConnections, Inc., developer
of NetWare-VMS connectivity software, announced today that it will
begin shipping the new Version 3.0 of its Terminal Emulation Services
(TES) effective this October.
TES allows PC users on a NetWare LAN to log on to VAX mini-
computers by Digital Equipment Corp. (DEC) and run VMS applications.
TES is comprised of two components -- the Host Software, a driver on
the VAX that coordinates TES communications between the LAN and VMS;
and the Client Software, a terminate and stay resident (TSR) program
on the LAN workstation that provides a virtual connection to the VAX.
A key new feature with Version 3.0 is that TES can now provide
multiple live Windows sessions. With previous versions, TES could only
support one active session, while up to eight could be on hold. Now,
TES can support up to 16 concurrent, active Windows sessions.
The number of sessions can be configured by the user at load
time -- from one to 16. If no number is specified, the software
automatically configures to support four sessions.
TES 3.0 also operates at considerable memory savings compared to
earlier versions. A single Windows session requires only about 13
Kbytes of memory, down from 33 Kbytes. Each additional session
requires about 2.2 Kbytes. At the four-session automatic default,
TES only requires 22 Kbytes of memory.
Also in Version 3.0 is the applications program interface
(API) for DEC's Local Area Transportation (LAT), enabling TES
users to incorporate the popular protocol into their NetWare-VMS
integration solutions.
The TES Internet Packet Exchange (IPX) transport protocol has
also been improved with Version 3.0. The TES protocol can now
transport data via fewer packets per character, providing faster
throughput and making network traffic more efficient.
TES is compatible with most major terminal emulation programs.
The TES Client Software is available bundled with the terminal
emulation programs from Persoft, KEA Systems and Diversified Computer
Systems (DCS). To implement TES on a network thus bundled, end-users
can simply purchase the TES Host Software from InterConnections and
load it on to their VAX.
Pricing for TES license agreements begins at $1,000 for five
users. An unlimited license starts at $2,000. (These prices apply
in North America only).
