  14. Shipments To Begin By October On NetWare-VMS Product
  15. BELLEVUE, WA, August 25, 1993 -- InterConnections, Inc., developer
  16. of NetWare-VMS connectivity software, announced today that it will
  17. begin shipping the new Version 3.0 of its Terminal Emulation Services
  18. (TES) effective this October.
  19.      TES allows PC users on a NetWare LAN to log on to VAX mini-
  20. computers by Digital Equipment Corp. (DEC) and run VMS applications.
  21. TES is comprised of two components -- the Host Software, a driver on
  22. the VAX that coordinates TES communications between the LAN and VMS;
  23. and the Client Software, a terminate and stay resident (TSR) program
  24. on the LAN workstation that provides a virtual connection to the VAX.
  25.      A key new feature with Version 3.0 is that TES can now provide
  26. multiple live Windows sessions.  With previous versions, TES could only
  27. support one active session, while up to eight could be on hold.  Now,
  28. TES can support up to 16 concurrent, active Windows sessions.
  29.      The number of sessions can be configured by the user at load
  30. time -- from one to 16.  If no number is specified, the software
  31. automatically configures to support four sessions.
  32.      TES 3.0 also operates at considerable memory savings compared to
  33. earlier versions.  A single Windows session requires only about 13
  34. Kbytes of memory, down from 33 Kbytes.  Each additional session
  35. requires about 2.2 Kbytes.  At the four-session automatic default,
  36. TES only requires 22 Kbytes of memory.
  37.      Also in Version 3.0 is the applications program interface
  38. (API) for DEC's Local Area Transportation (LAT), enabling TES
  39. users to incorporate the popular protocol into their NetWare-VMS
  40. integration solutions.
  41.      The TES Internet Packet Exchange (IPX) transport protocol has
  42. also been improved with Version 3.0.  The TES protocol can now
  43. transport data via fewer packets per character, providing faster
  44. throughput and making network traffic more efficient.
  45.      TES is compatible with most major terminal emulation programs.
  46. The TES Client Software is available bundled with the terminal
  47. emulation programs from Persoft, KEA Systems and Diversified Computer
  48. Systems (DCS).  To implement TES on a network thus bundled, end-users
  49. can simply purchase the TES Host Software from InterConnections and
  50. load it on to their VAX.
  51.      Pricing for TES license agreements begins at $1,000 for five
  52. users.  An unlimited license starts at $2,000.  (These prices apply
  53. in North America only).
